Most of the smoke is coming from fires in BC delivered to the south by the prevailing north winds. It blew into WA state yesterday morning. The change was pretty dramatic as the satellite images show.

That is what the news states & may be partially true, however with the predominately east winds blowing here in OR, I suspect most of our smoke is coming from the active forest fires east of the Cascades in WA & OR would be the more accurate.

Ah, today for us and it looks like Portland area, the winds remain from the north so far, but they are predicted to shift to the east. How far south in OR are you?

North winds are a blessing for us most of the time. It's keeping us cool with air coming off of Puget Sound while the rest of the region swelters.

Interesting! Old Timers always assumed "heat" to the Willamette valley that made it clear to the coast .........came from the east (down the Columbia Gorge). The "Smoke Map" is pretty clear on how it infiltrated to the south.

NW OR -- like stated in the Intro on the left -- in the OR "hump"
