What brand?

Depending where you live, your home depot may be selling something different from the other locations. HD near me in PA has no pellets. The HD in Westminster, MD has "Freedom Fuel" pellets.

[Edit] Darn...my post came after yours. The Freedom Fuel pellets that I bought were pretty good. I would buy them again.

I just called Lowes in my area they had Penningtons....The HD has Freedom Fuel.....Going to a stove store to get some Lignetics...I want to try those....

I was just at our 'local' Home Depot in Bangor Maine and they had Freedom Fuel, Pennington Nature's Heat, and Fireside Ultras. All $5.97/bag.

I've had good luck with Fireside Ultras and Blazers from HD. I've also bought Eureka from them and they are the worst pellets I've burned yet.

Last year I had 2 of freedom fuel they burned very dirty, they also did not have the Pellet Institute label on they, but this year when i saw them in the store they did have the label, so maybe they improved the product.

I bought 5 bags of Fireside Ultras at Home Depot to give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised, Low ash and plenty of heat. I would use them if I ran out of my preferred brand.

We have bought from home depo all year. Our first batch was Freedom Fuel (HD was the only place that had pellets in the beginning of the season)Freedom Fuel was hot but be prepared to clean there was tons of ash. This time we bought Fireside Ultra and they are really good. Low ash hot burn. We went back and bought more before they ran out.

This past July 2008 I purchased 2 tons of Pennington Nature's Heat Pellets, All Natural ( how many un-natural pellets are available?), Premium Hardwood, Clean Burning-Low Ash. These were bought at a local HD. I'm storing them for use in a clean, dry environment. These pellets seem to be burning very well through an NPS40, although being new to wood pellet heating I don't have much for comparison. I give the stove a good cleaning about every 3 to 4 days.

Two Home depots near me one has Blazers the other Fireside (I think). I've used the Blazers so far and the burn nice good heat output not too much ash and haven't seen any clinkers when cleaning burnpot.

penningtons are garbage

I gotta disagree. I had a half ton of them, I could burn almost 2 weeks and do nothing but add more. Had the P38 on 4 and it was near unbearable.
Switched to Forest Pride at the begining of this cold snap as I ran out of penningtons. I had to turn the furnace on this morning and back the stove up. I went out and bought some more peningtons, and when they hit I had to switch the stove from turbo to 4 and shut the furnace off again. Ive never noticed how hot the penningtons are until it was ten degrees out.

I ran a few bags of those through my stove when I was waiting for Corinth to replace my crappy pellets with pellets that were almost as crappy. They ran almost as good as the few bags of lignetics that I have uses. I would definitely buy them again if I could not get lignetics pellets.

same here..I like the Pennington's...they burn the longest in my stove compared to anyone else and I've tried ALOT..they produced less ash then Fireside Ultra's and Freedom's

Home Depot on the west coast sells BLAZER, MFG by West Oregon Wood Products (WOW). They burn hot and have little ash.

I like the pennintons they burn hot and have low ash but they have lots of fine so I have been sifting them, The freedom fuel also burns hot and has no fines but produces a lot of ash, just trying the fireside ultras now no fines and smaller size pellet darker color from you guys up in Canada but the bag is made in U.S.A

The nice thing about Penningtons is.............. free aggregate stove cleaner at NO EXTRA CHARGE !!!

In my customers stoves I've had nothing but trouble with Penningtons bought at Home Cheapo. Jams-dirty-low BTU-fines

I'm sorry, I just can't agree with a blanket statement saying that all Pennington pellets are bad much less that all of the Penningtons sold at all HDs are bad. I do think that some HD's have a penchant for improper pellet storage before sale, no matter what the brand and who knows what a pellet purchaser does with the pellets after leaving a HD store!
