The amount of fallen trees NW of Boston is unreal due to recent ice storm. I wish I lived closer and had a large truck. My guess is that homeowners would let you have what you want.

Yes, I started capitalizing when I got home. Only had about half hour of daylight by the time I got my gear into the car, but was able to get a 1/4 cord of pine. Going to go looking tomorrow as well. People are just happy to have most of it moved.

Only thing to be careful of is if your "found wood" is in the Asian Longhorn Beetle quarantine zone around Worcester. They've increased the fines for moving wood from inside that area recently.

I got the stuff on my property under control today.. I plan on borrowing my dads truck tomorrow and going out in search of downed limbs and trees.. shouldn't be to hard in my neighborhood.. north worcester, holden and west boylston are pretty rough..

Got to wait till tomorrow to really assess the damage here. I'll get some photos tomorrow.

Got up at 5:30 to find the power had been out since about 12:00 or so, ice covering everything, trees bent over to about 180 degrees. Amazing to see. I checked out the driveway and got a halfway decent shot of my remarkable luck...you can only see one of the tops, but there's a whole bunch of 4-6" thick treetops scattered all around the car and the truck...not one scratch (dent in the truck is old).

I'll get some pictures of my yard when I go back in the morning.. My neighbors and I weren't as lucky as you.. One branch clipped the corner of the roof over my garage breaking off the gutters and ripping off the trim.. also two of the sticks are stuck in the roof like javelins...

Lots of people were out in Pelham, NH and Dracut, MA Saturday getting wood. There was more white pine down that anyone could possibly want. Got myself 2/3 cord of white pine and 1/3 cord of red oak. May go out again for a bit today. I have enough wood for the next 2 years after this one, but I can't pass it up.

Most people were happy to be rid of any part of what fell. One guy didn't have a fireplace, but wanted to hang on to his cherry tree that cracked neatly in half. Probably had a neighbor he was thinking of.

I posted this in another thread but thought it might be useful here, too.

So far I haven't found much in the way of decent wood. Most was small birch and some cherry. The oaks and maples lost some limbs here and there. I haven't hauled any home yet, been too busy just cutting to open stuff up.
Good info about the ALH. We don't need that in NH.

I agree, if I had a decent "scroungemobile" I'd be out hunting, however 90% or better of what I've seen down in my area has been pine, and fairly small stuff at that.... Don't mean to be a "wood snob" and I know that pine is good wood if it's all you've got, but I've got all this year's wood and most of next year's already, and most of it's oak and maple so I really don't feel a need to go chase pine...
