The previous owner left me a patch. I am eradicating it, but I put up about half a cord instead of throwing it down the hill with the rest, because I wanted to see how it burned.

It takes forever to process (you have to ventilate each segment), and a half cord by volume is like a tenth of a cord by weight.

Makes great kindling though, which would be good if I wasn't surrounded by woods and free kindling already.

Had the first break in fire in our new Princess last night. The paint smell wasn’t horrible once it was hot. It was impressive the amount of heat the stove put out at a low setting with no flame visible.

My son, grandson and I went up and cut 3 nice lodgepole pine today. Scouting for elk season and these 3 trees needed our attention.

Number of years ago we had a "roofing party" at the end of a small commercial construction project. Plumber brought his Kamodo Joe bbq and one of our guys brought huge elk steaks for 20 of us. Best meat I've ever had!

Went to the lake yesterday to stack some wood I split couple of weeks ago. The house was cold (did not put the heat on yet). Fired up the Princess with some cedar and hemlock. This was my first fire of the season with the BK. Just lit my 5th of the season in the VC.

I think some are larger than my whole stove. Probably the firebox on the cooker as well.

I do too! It's just never been cleaned. When we run the stove, we run on lower burn rates. There are distinct advantages to having a 9" depth in the belly of the stove. Unfortunately with the fire being far from the glass and running on low, the glass gets build up. We have a "nice" door for when we have visitors.

I'm not sure what a Sunday mood is, but I'm guessing it's a good thing! SpaceBus is a long story, but no offense taken regardless.

I'm looking at getting my first wood stove and came across the Blaze Kings. Looking at the Ashford 30 in enamel. What is the difference between an Ashford 30.1 and 30.2? I know the 30.2 is their EPA contender for 2020. But it looks like the HHV efficiency dropped from 80% to 76%?? Why is that? Could anyone explain to me the difference between the two?

The 30.1 is the variant manufactured approximately 2015-2019, it has been recently replaced with the 30.2, likely with a few mod’s or new testing to be fully compliant with the new 2020 regulations.

Please note: ALL Stoves tested on crib fuel (dimensional lumber) prior to March 2015 were tested to Method 28. The results of the 30.1 are from that method.

When the new rule came out in late March 2015, the Method was modified. It was also renamed Method 28R. The R means revised. The 30.2 test results are based on this change.

You should buy any wood stove tested to either Method with the understanding there is variability in all methods. I suspect without proprietary drawings, the difference in the two models (firebox wise) would be nearly impossible to detect. Same goes for actual real world performance.

Just checking in to say the first fire of the season was this weekend. Everything went nice and smooth. Looks like all the work done over the summer to get the stove working perfect and the air circulating through the house is paying off. Pretty happy now.

I had a small fire a couple nights ago because it was 40 degrees out. Today it's 75!

....And yes, all of my wood is under 20% - can't quite figure it out.

The Veep is never home to burn, for gosh sakes! JK, maybe his wife burns the stove when he's gone..
As to your creo, if you try to run super-low, flue temp will go super-low as well and you'll get more condensation. Try as it might, the cat can't burn up everything..

Well first fire of the year here in southern eastern MN, still always a head scratcher how/why the stove or pipe smells like burned dust on the first fire of the year.

Dust could be in the convective chambers as well..

Like the others said, 'Wow, those splits are huge!' If I split some of the more dense species that big, I might hurt my back loading the stove.

I did my second fire of the season last night. This morning was only 44 deg outside but I have been having some 37 to 39 degrees nights already but I am testing the mini split with super heat system and has been working good. Last night I shut everything else and run one of the stoves. God is a witness, I was in Paradise. This morning all that part of the house was 78 when I left.
