2 inch difference height between hearth and floor

So if I buy a hearth pad which is 24 inch wide and lay it on the top of tiles and hardwood floor in front of the fireplace, it should solve it for me?

I am leaning towards this solution now because of less work involved in it.

This is why I proposed considering a hearth extension board in post #23. If what you propose is not permanently attached to the existing hearth, then it would be ok.

Yes that would work as long as you get one that is big enough and meets the required r value
