Been through the drill from 1 to 14 days over the last 33 years here. The 5,250 generator sucked gas like a vampire. The best thing I ever did was buying two 3,500 max 2,500 continuous ones and use just one for the normal house load, around 650 KWh, and fire the second one when the kitchen needs to go to work.
