What is a ZC fireplace???? I seen the phrase reading some old topics.. I would like to buy a Jotul Castine and place it in front of my Masonary fireplace rather than a insert.

I have just been taking the edge off with my open fireplace.

ZC is Zero Clearance

Basically the ZC prefab fireplaces are metal boxes with cement refractories in them. You have a full masonry it sounds like so you should be fine with the Castine in front of it.

Also FYI you might be taking the edge off in the immediate area around the fireplace but in the other side of the house you are probably sucking cold air in through all the windows and cooling it off.
