Hearthlist Digest #503 - Monday, October 2, 2000 Poll Results by "Craig Issod" <[email protected]>
(back) Subject: Poll Results From: "Craig Issod" <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 12:44:27 -0400 The poll on the front page of HearthNet at http://hearth.com asks "Which fuel will your next stove or fireplace use?" It is interesting to notice the difference between this poll and the same one taken last year, and also notice the difference between perception of what the customer thinks they want...and what they actually buy! Last Year (Y2K Fever) 33% gas 44% wood 18% pellets 5% electric, alcohol and coal This Year (Energy Crisis?) 24% gas 39% wood 30% pellets 5% electric, alcohol and coal I'd be interested in what others make of this data. Seems as if wood, left for deal by many, is still the preferred fuel for most...at least until they actually step into a store. Pellets again have a strong showing, but since pellet sales figures are far below these numbers we can assume the customer: 1. Once educated about the products opts for something else 2. Is talked out of these appliances by the dealer or friends 3. Cannot find a good selection and service in their area In any case, it seems like a sales opportunity for those who are experts in the pellet field. It's too bad this industry jumped head first into pellets before the products and technology were perfected. The resulting backlash is still occurring and has resulted in many lost sales. ------------------------------------------------------ Craig Issod HearthNet at http://www.hearth.com [email protected] Everything your Hearth Desires ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------
