I have been running our Oslo up to 500-550 and then adjust the air control down in quaters every 10-15 minutes resulting in just around about 1/4 open and cruising at about 400-425. My single wall pipe is rear vented into a tee less than 18" from the collar and then up through a block off plated masonry chimney. I am trying to understand my pipe/flue temps and the only place I can place a surface thermometer is on the horizontal slip connector about 12" from the collar. I am generally getting readings about 50-75 degrees cooler than the stove top temp (pipe surface = 325-400 cruising, 450-475 before closing air) I checked the thermometers and both are in agreement with one another when I have them both on the stove top.
Does this all sound normal or is my pipe surface tempurature misleading? My basic understanding of physics would lead me to believe the pipe tempurature would be greatest near the stove...please school me;-)
