Sconnie Burner

Feeling the Heat

Picked up a Meeco magnetic thermometer to try and run my stove with some guidance. Kind of a rookie to this whole burning thing with only about 2 months of woodstove experience this spring in Feb and March.

Its the new color scheme, not the obnoxious yellow, green, and red one. So I figured I'd try it out.

I have a step top Quadra-fire 3100. Where is the best place to put it? On the step near where the flue exits? On the lower step? I'm not sure if its going to be accurate there because it has a blower that comes out between the steps. Up towards the front of the stove more above the door? Any pointers would be great.

I would start with centered on the lower step just before it angles up.

May vary by stove make, but on my Regency there is baffle welded underneath the top in front of the flue collar
directing heat around it. So the hottest part is 2-3 inches away form the collar at about 45 deg.
If you have an IR thermometer you can find the hottest part of the top.
