Question:
I have an extensive amount of burnable wood from my property but would like the convenience (lighter fuel to carry) of a pellet stove. Is it possible to burn "wood chips" (from a power shredder) in a pellet stove, or must you only use commercially-manufactured pellets?
Answer:
Sorry, only commercially produced and dried pellets will function in a Pellet stove. Pellet stoves are quite choosy about the fuel.
11/2007 recently many manufacturers have been producing units that will burn lower quality pellets and other biomass, while wood chips are stil not going to work as well, corn, grass pellets, cherry pits etc are viable if the fuel cost/supply is right.
