I had a really rough day today. My job was driving me up a wall. Thank God I have like twenty rounds of locust needing to be split. I went outside and split some wood for a while. Man, what a practical way to get out my aggression. I haven't been angry like that since I was a teenager. Being outside and smashing my maul through those splits really calmed my mind. Can anyone relate?

Yes, had a smiliar issue the other day....started splitting some of my knarley wood, and thought I rebusted my hernia....dr said it was ok, but it still felt good to get out the steam.

Splitting always works for me. I make sure there are always a few rounds out by the woodpile just in case I need some therapy.

For me just getting in the woods does the job.

YES!!!!!

I had a whole thread going a few months ago about the same thing. Dude... I'm so glad you said this - whenever I'm having a rough day, this is some of the best therapy.

I've had some pretty rough sledding lately. Working at it a bit more often I've managed to get about 2 years ahead. I really enjoy being outdoors; any excuse is acceptable.

Hell yeah . . . splitting, stacking, knocking down some trees . . . I don't know if it's being outside . . . doing physical exercise . . . the repetition . . . or simply the he-man feeling one gets by knocking something down, hacking something up or tossing stuff hither and thither . . . but yeah . . . working with the wood is a great stress reliever.

As the commercial says - I believe the best way to keep a clear mind is to get your hands dirty. (paraphrased).

Yup to all of you.

Hell yea, I get worried when I run low on rounds now.

All of the above is good therapy. Even after we have to go to town, I enjoy a nice quiet walk in the woods.

Wood processing is great therapy, no doubt in my mind.

My DH does the same thing....hits the woodpile (now with his new Fiskars) to dump the stress. Monday was a bad work day for me. Mentioned to my DH after work I needed a long walk. His suggestion (gotta love 'em) - how about walkin some wood out of the woods that I cut over lunch. Not exactly the kind of walkin I had in mind but it did the trick.

Many an evening have I come home from work with steam coming out of my ears. It is great to roll out some oak rounds and imagine a face on the top of one as you drive the maul clear through it.
