Split these yesterday with the family, not sure what type of wood?

While Cherry is a logical choice, I would say it could be Soft Maple just as well. Any Bark?? I can tell it was dead for quite some time so perhaps no bark.
 
I didn't know maple had such a red tone to it....thanks for the input guys so much to learn here!
 
First two pics remind me of some apple I have split, which is also full of bug holes. But that rich color in the last pic reminds of some mesquite lumber I saw several years ago...but you're not exactly at the right latitude for that!
