Split these yesterday with the family, not sure what type of wood?

While Cherry is a logical choice, I would say it could be Soft Maple just as well. Any Bark?? I can tell it was dead for quite some time so perhaps no bark.

There was some bark on it but unfortunately did not get a photo of it.

I didn't know maple had such a red tone to it....thanks for the input guys so much to learn here!

First two pics remind me of some apple I have split, which is also full of bug holes. But that rich color in the last pic reminds of some mesquite lumber I saw several years ago...but you're not exactly at the right latitude for that!

It looks very Black Cherry to me, when it goes like that usually the sapwood rots off.

Black cherry around here seems to have a much straighter grain but maybe that's just the individual trees I've felled.
