With a twisted 'cork screw' grain. That stuff is no fun to split or stack.
 
Agree, silver maple. Split it now and it should be ready for shoulder season about this time next year.
 
Ugh. Hope you have a splitter.
 
Looks like it is splitting pretty easily to me. Have never really found a tough splitting Soft Maple.

Definitely silver maple. I'm working on a load of that currently also.
