Needing some help identifying this wood, relatively straight grained splits well but very white on a fresh split. Moderately heavy pretty hard I'm thinking ash?

Sure looks like basswood to me...only problem with that response is you say it's pretty hard. If you peel the bark, is it stringy?
 
I like to burn ash. Easy to split, pretty good BTUs. I like the smell of ash when you split it.

Thanks to the emerald ash borer for making all this firewood available to me.
Damn the emerald ash borer, because now, all my ash trees are dead.
