Well.....just drove by the house we used to rent - it's a little over a half mile from my current house. Along the road, I noticed about 20 trees flagged for cutting - about 7 trees are on my old house's property. Three big red oak, one big ash, and about 3 medium cherry trees. Must be a good 3-4 cord all together (perhaps more?). I knew my ex-landlords don't burn, so gave them a ring and asked if I could have the wood when the road crew comes. They said sure thing, but that they had already told the crew that they could have the wood. They said to ask the crew if I can have the wood when they start the cutting. So....what do you think? Should I just stop when the crew starts their work and let them know that the owner would like to give me the wood and to please leave it there - or am I going to be breaking some ethical rule since they were told they could have it first? I sure would like the wood and super easy scrounge being so close to home and right on the side of the road. Cheers!

Iceman - now you're talkin'! Not a bad idea at all - might just try that.........thanks! Cheers!

I'd ask the crew for the wood. They probably have all the wood they want, and might give at least some of it to you just to share. I can't imagine anyone who works on a tree cutting crew not having all the wood they can handle.

Shoot, ask them for the wood and then tell them you've got a spot for stuff they don't want. Throw in that they can bring it in log form and save them the cutting and you may have a great supplier.

Well after last nights Blow, I think the odds of getting that wood just got a lot better. The Tree Services will have more than they can handle. We have trees down everywhere.

Nothing ventured; nothing gained. I like Iceman's idea.

Worse that can happen is that they say they want the wood . . . best thing that can happen is they buck up the wood for you . . . and then mention that they'll have more wood for you if you give them your address and phone number.

Sounds good everybody - thanks for your input - now to catch the crew when they arrive! Cheers!

If you're close by, I think you are likely to get the wood. most tree service crews are always looking for a place to empty the truck without lots of hauling. It may be good firewood, but they can always get more of it
