I feel bad for this guy...he should have posted here on hearth.com, because so far nobody on greenbuildingadvisor.com seems able to help him with his wood stove problem. I'm no expert but maybe his builder did a slammer install with his stove? No mention is made of a chimney liner.

There is a pic of the stove. Free standing. All he needs is an OAK for the thing.
 
I agree bart at least that should be the first step it will probably make a big difference. Might not be the only problem but it is an obvious one and would be my first step from the info given.
