Hi everyone,
After determining the auger motor on my Whitfield Advantage II T stove needed replacement and when I disconnected auger motor wires, prior to disconnect power (yes I know, I should have confirmed power was off) I shorted them to ground causing 6 amp fuse on circuit board to blow.
Upon installation of new auger motor and replacement of fuse, I turned power on and noticed that auger motor runs constenly regarless if auger on / off switch is on or off. When switch is on indicator light blinks normally.
Could circuit board have been damaged although I see no evidence of anything wrong.
Any and all comments appriciated.

Thanks Arc, for the link. I sent a post from inside link that sent me but not certain it went to proper subject comments. I intend on replacing Triac but having difficulty reading pn with Triac still installed. Does anyone know the pn needed. Picture of control board attached.

part number = T835-600 if memory serves me it should be 1 of the 2 that have the heatsinks on them. i don't remember which. One thing to remember it is a very old board and the traces will lift if they are overheated so be real careful. Hope to see you post Positive results 👍

Use multi meter to test triacs, there should be 3 legs on each traic, test for continuity on each leg, with stove unplugged there should only be continuity between 2 of the legs if all three legs have continuity that is the bad triac.

Thank you both for your comment and suggestions. The Triac I’m looking to replace is the one that alternates power on and off to auger motor. I’m I wrong on my selection of Triac. Actually I had not identified the two circled on photo by Ssyko

Finally and very carefully, I succeeded on removing Triac from control board. Part number is indeed BTA 10-400C and upon researching availability I found out that part no longer available. An alternate pn came up but not being familiar with Triac specs I’m not certain if alternate would work. Alternate part number is BT138X-6000F . Any comments?

Your equivalent should be fine. They are only used for on-off control of ac motors in this capacity. I use the T835 because it is used in 5 of the diff boards i do, so it keeps on hand stock limited. It also is 4amp less than the original but it is still more than the fuse on the board 🤪

T835-600 Product details

Description
Available either in through-hole or surface-mount packages, the BTA08, BTB08, T810, T835 is
suitable for general purpose AC switching. It can be used as an ON/OFF function in applications
such as static relays, heating regulation, induction motor starting circuits or for phase control
operation in light dimmers and motor speed controllers, etc.

Well, ordered Triac came in and installed it on board with hope that problem would be rectified. Hell no, this time when a turn on power lower heat output light come on for a few seconds then turns off. Very disappointed as before replacing Triac, stove was working fine other than motor ran continuously. Any suggestions

Ok Phill ill go to my lab and break out the board and try and figure this out or at the least toss in in the scrap bin.

What did you use for soldering iron?

Is any of the three legs touching or connected by solder? This is what it should look like. Ignor the blobs of solder mask it so old all the mask is flaking off now.

Here are two picture of what I have done. I checked with a multimeter following the soldering to make sure the legs weren’t solder together.

As long as your dwell time was short it should be good. Is it in reversed?

I tried to keep dwell time to a minimum but !!! I’m no expert. Triac was installed same positioning as old one, but I will check. Tested the varistor and seemed to be ok, but not certain of my test.

Did you get a couple of those triac’s? Can you post a pic of just the triac

Just for grins and giggles, when you turned it on was the auger shut off😳

Here are pictures of old and new Triac’s. As for auger motor being on when I turned on power I don’t know, but it was connected.
