I held a meat thermometer up there the burn pot was full of coals with just small flames, it read 170F
Room temp was 74F

The temp of the air out of the distribution tubes varies depending on brand/type of pellets. It may also vary depending on the fan speed chosen but I don't know that for a factEvery time I get different pellets, I test them in the P43.

All my, admittedly unscientific testing, is performed in the P43. I set the oven thermometer to get the air temp coming out of the 3rd tube from the right. The P43 has 7 air tubes and that placement gives a nice, snug fit for the thermometer, between the top of the firebox door and the lip off the top of the stove.

When taking temperature of the air, I turn the thermostat up another 1* from its set point to make sure I get at least 25 minutes of run time at full bore (according to the feed rate). The feed rate is set at 3 (I normally run it at 2 for my own reasons). I also don't clean the stove, so it is running at real-world conditions, not at best possible conditions.

I start taking temp readings at the 20 minute mark after the burn begins. Here are some pics of different top temps:

And yes, I'm just geeky enough to keep all that info in a spreadsheet - LO (this is just a sample, I have 41 rows). Unfortunately, I did not take the temp when I got my hands on some Vermonts in 2018 - I think because I only ran that in the P61a..

Ok I retested with Meat Thermometer. 184f with probe inside and 123f on Little China Made Cube that I held 3" from Opening. Thanks Everyone.

Room is 75f and Outside is 31f. Stove is not working very hard.

I run on lowest possible distribution fan speed so as bogieb stated above will be a factor in the air temp. Also the heated air is mixing with cooler room air so the measurement distance from the outlet is probably a big factor too.
Room temp of 75F in winter is soooo nice!
