I let the fire go out today and decided to do a thorough mid-winter cleaning. While scraping the ashes into the grate, my shove pulled up this odd black T shaped piece of iron. Is it a cover for the bricks that line the rear floor of the firebox? This T piece does not screw in and I can't remember paying much attention to it when I bought it. Any thoughts? Stove is working fine since cleaning it out, I just replaced it back where it can from after brushing the ashes out.
Also, anyone have good techniques/advice for cleaning the glass on the Shelburne other than just using hot water?
I'm going back to load some free 2 year dry red oak into the stove. Going to be a cold one tonight.
