Wax Fire Starters

So I know Super Cedars do not cost very much but with an abundance of sawdust, why not use some spent candles and muffin molds and make your own? I am curious about the wax and how safe it is for a stove though? Should it be only paraffin or is any unscented candle wax ok?

My wife had a pound of canning wax here and I used some cedar dust and in about an hour I had 24 shallow muffins of cedar starters. I can use half of one to get a good start (except for one fail) so why not keep it DIY? Don't want to hurt the stove with bad wax though... Any opinions?

Should be ok in small starters. Folks have been reporting making their own starters here for years.

I've made a bunch in cardboard egg cartons.

I've made a few out of old candles, wood shavings and sawdust . . . in fact I still have a bunch of old candles that I could do this with . . . it's just a lot easier time-wise for me to buy the SuperCedars.

No problem in small amounts. I have also made my own DIY starters. Worked just fine, but the Super Cedars still kicked their hiney.

I make my own with dryer lint and leftover wax from scentsy warmers. Works great!
