I had my new Oslo installed the just before Easter and did two of the three reccomended break in fires on back to back days. I burned the first fire Easter night for 1 hour at 200 degrees and let it burn out. The following day I burned one hour at 300 degree and let it burn out. With the warm weather I've not had a chance to do the third fire until tonight. Jotul wants 400 degrees for the third fire but i only got up to around 375 degrees for an hour and the stove is cooling down as I speak. Is this bad boy considered broke in or do I need another fire at 400 degrees?

I didn't give it much thought until after I lit the fire tonight but I'm wondering if the long wait from the 2nd fire to the 3rd matters. Also many people have stated the stove would offgas and smell but I've had very little smell these past 3 fires. Any thoughts?

I'd say she's ready to roll for a more normal burn.

I'm willing to bet you'll get some smell once you see 500 for the first time. Then the first time you see 550, then the first time you see 600, etc.

If you aren't noticing anything now, I doubt it will be very bad.

The enameled stoves aren't as bad for break in smoke because there is no paint. I'd say you are ready to burn in that nice stove.

You should get a couple more chances to let her rip in the next week or so, looks like some cold nights coming up in a few days.

Congrats on the Jotul. I wouldn't worry about 25 degrees. That thing ain't no china doll, let her rip.

I dunno for what they get for new stoves today I'm inclined to break it in just the way they want it done. Why not, if it's convenient for you to do so?

Hope the family enjoys it as much as we love our stove and wood burning endeavors.

I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the replies.
