I acquired this stove literally of the floor of an old barn. It is in very good condition. No cracks, seams all tight, all parts are there. Some surface rust. Cast into the cast iron is BP Learned & Co, Patented 1850. Albany New York, NY. It measures 20" high, 14" wide, 23" deep. Is it rare, have value? I want to take a wire brush to it and then paint it with black, flat heat paint. Any thoughts?

That is an oldie. Before doing anything, get a professional appraisal. I am guessing this is from the 1800s and may have a higher value than most box stoves of a newer vintage. Use the proper paint. Stove Brite metallic black looks good on old stoves, but it would be good to inquire as to the best finish for authenticity. It could be stove black polish.

There is a list of antique restorers at the top of this forum.
