I have been rocking and rolling for the past couple of years with this old non cat defiant. But I’m kind of getting sick of burning through a ton of wood and I’d like to finally finish this thing off with some built ins, tile work going to the ceiling, concrete mantle etc. The clearances on this old girl are crazy big and I don’t want to push my luck. I love the look of the defiant and found a newer 1945 model that would look great here for 200-300 bucks. It probably needs a full rebuild but I don’t mind spending 600 -800 on that to have a stove that I like the looks and will get to see a nice glow from the fire.

My question is this. The 1945 defiant is currently set up to be a top vent. My setup is a rear vent with a 8 oval to 6 stainless liner. Does the 1945 defiant easily switch to a rear vent or is it factory specific.

Thanks in advance! Hope y’all keeping warm

The manual shows the flue collar set up for rear vent. Measure twice to make sure this will work and aligns properly with the flue connection.

The 1945 manual I found shows a top and rear. Wasn’t sure if this is model specific or if it’s setup to be flipped around

It appears to be reversible.
