I tried looking to see if I could find a related thread but could not so here goes. We have a room that we would like to install another pellet stove. Going up through the roof isn’t an easy option so I’d like to go out through the wall. The problem is the only external wall has a porch. But the ceiling of the room for the stove is a good 4 feet higher than the roof of the porch. My question is if I went up and then out over the porch roofing, and the vent was 40 inches over the shingles roof or the porch would there be any fire risk? I’ve seen lots of posts as well as information on stove manuals about clearance from combustibles etc but nothing like this. My thought is since you can vent through the roof, at 40 inches it should be fine. But again I can’t find any information anywhere about venting over a shingled overhang. Thanks!

I think you are Ok look at it as if you vented through that roof if you come out 40 inches
above the roof and turn to vent straight up then I see no problem.

I would say that is pretty much like venting out above the ground and plants.

I would probably be paranoid and place a decent sized square of aluminum or metal on top of the shingles and below the exhaust, but that is just me. I put big pavers under my sidewall exhausts even though that area is pea gravel anyway. I was just paranoid a plant would grow there (and, one of my exhausts is probably 4' above ground too 😁)
