I bought this stove for $450 from facebook. It was manufactured in 2000. I thought I was getting a steal, but want to make sure its going to be safe.

Upon my initial inspection, I noticed the fire shields inside the firebox were warped and one of the fans didn't work. How big a deal is it if the heat shields are warped? The top seems flat and the bypass opens and closes easily.

Once I got it home, I cleaned it out the best I could. Some of the creosote was pretty thick. I couldn't get all the creosote off the glass. I took off the fans to ensure there wasn't a hole hidden back there like some posts I've seen on here. All clear. Some of the fire bricks are cracked. The exterior looks good except some minor paint blemishes.

So far, I had to fix the door latch because I ended up breaking it off trying to adjust it. I had to grind off the welded nut.

I put a new ceramic cat in it. The old one didn't seem too bad, but I figured might as well. I'll keep it just in case.

I bought a new cat thermometer. I found the old one inside the firebox. Does the thermometer just slide in the hole or does it need sealant of some kind?

The one fan was seized up. Should I stay with OEM for the replacement?

I took apart the thermostat to check the butterfly, coil spring, and rod. The thermostat housing had black silicone. I'm not sure if this is from the factory or not. Is it needed? The thermostat dial stops at the 6 o' clock position, but keeps spinning the opposite direction after the butterfly is closed. Is that normal or does it need adjustment?

The door doesn't seemed warped. The wooden handle is charred. I checked both the glass gasket and door gasket. With a dollar bill it felt tight, but then I taped my shop vac to the collar and had it blow air into the stove. I had air coming out of the bottom of the door. Pulled the gasket off and will replace. I also had alot of air coming from the hole where the bypass rod comes out the side. Do I need to replace something there?

That's all I've gotten to so far. Parts for the KE 1102 seem to be hard to find. I can find KEJ 1102. What's the difference? I'd like to find side shields if it's an option for a corner install.

Is there anything else I should be checking?

With those shields warped I wonder if it's been over fired

Whoa, bolted in bypass gasket retainers? Is that factory @BKVP ? What are the rearmost bolts holding in?

You are missing your door gasket, be sure to only use new gasket from BK. Aftermarket won't work.

The cat meter just sits there in the hole. No sealant.

I like the new door latch upgrade. Mine is the old welded in style, your new one is infinitely adjustable so an upgrade.

The warped flames shields wouldn't bother me at all. Be sure to clean out the junk behind them.

The black silicone was factory installed on my princess too. Hopefully you didn't take apart the thermostat too far and disrupt the calibration.

@Highbeam Methinks you have a newer stove than this one from 2000?

Looks like nice thick plate where the bypass seals. Probably why it still looks like it’s in good shape.

No retainers in 1102. Steel sliding over steel.
