Tuning question for you saw guys

I finally broke down and created a profile at Arboristsite and tried to post a vid, but I had no luck. I then went to youtube to upload it and found I needed to create a goggle account. So I did that so I could upload a video. Don't know what kind of conspiracy that is though?

Back to Arboristsite and tried to link to thread, no luck. Appears I don't have the post count I need. Hmmm.... NPCD (Newb Post Count Discrimination) . So all this trouble and I still can't get any feedback on what she sounds like.

I'm asking for some input because I dual ported the muffler and had to re-tune the carb. This is my first muffler mod and now me has some questions. I think I have it dialed in but would like to have another ear or 2 listen to it .

The biggest issue I had was setting idle speed and the LA. I think it's more of a "feel" on how the saw runs up from idle and finding the right combination of idle & LA adjustment.But I don't know. No I don't have a tach and probably won't take it anywhere to be tach'd.

Sounds pretty good to me. I might fatten it just a touch on the high side to be safe and turn the idle up a hair.

Thanks, I've added a couple more this morning. That saw with the 20" on it and full chisel chain and she flies through wood. That's a nice piece of green oak in the vid.

Those videos were done last week and I was thinking of pulling the plug today and checking it over. Don't know if it will tell me that much but I've run a few tanks through it since the mod. Last thing I want to do it blow it up.

Seems like your saw has, (I'm assuming your saw) a better idle. I can't quite get mine to idle that clean and not start rolling the chain. Any advice?

So how does it sound? I'm thinking I'm pretty close considering this is my first attempt and I don't have a tach.

What's wrong with that idle? Kinda like tellin' the guy at the car show his blown big-block, "idles too rough". If it doesn't die and revs clean, as yours does, then I wouldn't pursue a Prius-like idle.

I'd richen it up at little on the high side too, don't sound like it's 'four cycling' quite enough to my liking. Not sure what mix you run, but if you are running a lean-oil mix (50:1 or leaner), I'd definately want it to four cycle a little at full throttle so you know you are gettin enough lube in that cylinder......

Other than that, it sounds pretty good to me. I love's me a muffler mod. Do it to ALL my saws....

Lol. You got me there. Actually, I "kinda" modded that muffler, does removing the spark arrestor and drilling the outlet plug a size bigger qualify? Because I'd did that to it AND my BG55 leaf blower. Both run better and that blower sounds like its on steroids! Haven't modded the old 015 limbers yet, they already are loud and run great.

Just picked up a brand-new SH86 (BG86 with a vac kit, basically) and man did Stihl get that one right. Mean idle too, smooth as a kitten at WOT. Pretty impressive for a handheld blower.

As the other guys said, just a touch more fuel on the H side, Idle sounds OK to me. I don't worry about a smooth purr @ idle either. As MM said, if it stays running, doesn't turn the chain, & revs up without hesitation, run it. A C

Atta boy! Exactly what make and model leaf blower, may I ask? I already hyped up my Stihl BG55 with a mild muffler mod (mentioned above), very easy to do.......but you'll need earplugs and the neighbors won't like you anymore....

Sister stopped by one afternoon a few months back.I was in backyard milling a few smaller slabs,cleaning up some stuff & didnt hear her pull in the driveway out front near my street. 288XPW was on the ground idling (it sounds very similar to that 2101XP,just not quite as 'bouncy' on hard surfaces). She walked towards me & yelled "When did you get a bike,I had no idea you even wanted one! "
