So. What's everybody using? I have an old wooden box that I built. It has a piece of heater hose for a handle and a sliding piece of luan for a lid. Its a bit heavy but it's very sturdy. How much stuff do you carry in your toolbox? I don't carry that much in mine. I have a parts brush to get sawdust and dirt from around the fuel and oil caps. A screwrench (or whatever you call that thing). I use camping fuel bottles. I have a 20oz full of bar oil and a 33oz full of fuel. A couple rags in there just because. If i'm going somewhere other than home to cut I take more but this is all I usually have in my box. Thinking of trying to lighten up as far as the box goes but don't want some flimsy plastic piece of junk.

I use a plastic tub with lid that came from Wal-mart or Lowes or somewhere. It holds the saw, oil, gas, gloves, earplugs, extra 2 cycle mix, all my chains, saw tool, and extra bar. The lid fits closely enough I can leave it in the garage without it stinking up the place. I can pick it up and load it in the pickup and be instantly ready to go - no searching around for all the odds and ends.

It may be this one: http://www.lowes.com/pd_314139-61896-314139_4294936623_4294937087_?productId=3098759&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1¤tURL;=/pl_Totes+and+Baskets_4294936623_4294937087_?Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1

Wow! That thing is huge! I want something smaller. not to fit my saw, just the other items. I'm packing light and strap my box on the front rack of my ATV and my saw on the back rack.

Plastic 5 gallon bucket inside a milk crate strapped to the front rack.
oil & gas jug, straps, ropes, (big stuff) in the milk crate,
small stuff, files tools, clevises etc in the bucket

I bought the Husky Powerbox (gasp!) even though I run Stihl gear. BUT, it's the best case: holds my 361 w/18" bar (could probably do 20, too), quart of bar oil, 2-stroke mix, stump sharpener, 4 wedges, glasses, gloves, rags, ear buds, file kit, chaps, and 3 spare chains. I also mounted a first aid kit at the end. Yup, everything in one box! The only thing I take separately is my helmet (only when felling) and gas.

I like the milk crate idea. Thanx. Ill think about this one. I do have an old steel milk crate but the holes between the bars are huge.

Yes, I too use the milk crate and ccwhite, it is a metal crate. When I head to the woods, in the crate is a 1 gallon gas can, 1/2 gallon oil, sharpening kit, parts brush for cleaning before filling with oil and gas, measuring stick, wedges. That get put into the trailer along with chain saw (tool is in the saw case), chain, cant hook and axe. I also take along something to drink and an extra pair of gloves that have hot soapstone blocks in them and wrapped up so they stay nice and warm.

Old metal wire milk crate.Small tools like the scrench, file w/handle etc stay inside saw case, but a couple wooden wedges, jug of bar oil, couple old rags, small funnel just in case are in the crate.2 1/2 gallon can of fuel is separate.

That's where the bucket comes in. Drill a few holes in the bucket bottom so it stays dry. (I don't cut in rain, but snow sometimes)
When needed, I have some lids that I cut the locking tabs off of so they come off easy.
I have several buckets with tools setup for various projects ready to go, garden, composting, yardwork, brush/tree trimming, trapping, fishing etc.
Tools have a place & easy to find. (grab & go.)

Mine may actually be a smaller version of the above. It is just long enough to hold the saw - Stihl 025 with 18" bar - with maybe two or three inches to spare. I usually work out of the back of my pickup and it is nice to have everything contained. A wooden box would be too heavy for me to lift.

Plastic 5 gallon bucket . . . I think it might have held paint, drywall mud or laundry soap at one time . . . now it holds a Scrench, a few tools, extra chains, files, etc.

I have this stihl toolbox/fueltank that I carry 2 cycle oil, files, wrenches, 12 volt sharpener, small funnel, extra chains and small odds and ends. The top holds a galon of gas which works really good. As far as chain oil and wedges I use a 5 galon bucket to hold that stuff. I try to travel with just what I need when I cut, two saws and the small toolbox and bucket.

That's the greatest thing I've ever seen!! I love it!

It's a sack with shoulder straps that you people call a backpack. I've worked with lots of Frenchmen in the bush and they call it a packsack. They also often say tabarnak.

Milk crate for me. Holds a gallon can of gas, 40:1 mix, 1/2 gallon of bar oil. Shop towels, Sharpening tools, cleaning brush, wedges. hand sledge hammer, Safety Goggles. Hearing protectors (Stihl ear muffs).

That's all I can think of right now.

I have a plastic tote that stays on the bike and holds the saw, fuel, oil, gloves etc.
The storage compartment on the bike holds tools, lunch and drinks.

I see the golf ball.
Where is the club hiding?
Thomas

Lemme guess... you drilled a hole in the golf ball and use it on the tail of the file?

Good guesses, lol.
Actually it's used when I drop a trailer in the bush.
The ball is inserted in trailer coupler then handle closed and locked.
Makes it a little more difficult to steal unless they bring tools.

I use an ammo can in a milkcrate.
727 sunset, what is the tube with duct tape on the end? sitting horizontal, behind the crate? Homemade peavy?
Is the old dish soap container for bar oil? Nice idea. Squeeze rather than pour.

Yes, it's a cant hook and homemade indeed.
The soap bottle has all the chain oil I need in a day, and helps to get it "in" the saw rather than on.
