Hi all!

Three years ago I purchased a set of vent free logs made by realfyre. Iwe bought a new house with a fireplace, and the wife wanted these. I think that when the box measurement was taken and log length determined, they did not consider room size. Twenty minutes on low and the room becomes too hot to be enjoyable. Today I was cleaning them for the season and opened my chimney damper and saw bright sunlight shining down.

Are there any reasons why I could not crack the damper open to let some heat out to regulate room temperature?

Thanks in advance!

None at all. In fact it’s a good idea to open the damper when you burn them. Most logsets come with a damper clip to prevent a sealed condition. Carbon monoxide is a byproduct of combustion, & it is definitely not your friend. Excess water vapor from “Room Vented” (not Vent Free) hearth appliances can cause all kinds of mold issues, not to mention that vapor can be absorbed into unfinished wood, causing it to swell. Open the damper.
