Afternoon all,

Can you assist? I have managed to grab a great little insert multifuel burner which I am more than happy to fit.
My question is, Do I really need a flue? As the chimney is in good condition, and the stove has a plate so you can access to clean chimney, regs says not required but would like to hear from the experts.
Any thoughts from anyone most appreciated.

The chimney is the flue, are you asking if it needs to be lined? What type of chimney is it? If it's class A, you should be good to go. If it's masonry then yes, you most likely need an insulated liner.

I'm not sure what code is in the UK. But pay attention to the cross section of the current flue; it should be similar to the opening on the insert.

Also, in the US for safety one needs to have 2 inch of distance between the outer brick of a chimney to any combustibles - unless one puts in an insulated liner. (1" if the chimney is outside.)

Absolutely line, you will never regret it, the safety, peace of mind and efficiency for many many years to come will be worth every penny. The bonus is the chimney liner will be far easier to clean and maintain saving you money in the long run.
