I do not care if I can get my hands on a Mansfield or a new 2-in-1 Defiant, as long as it's cheap, I'm buying it. Cat or no cat. I do not care. As long as it burns wood and has a big mouth, I'm in.

Buy that 30-NC and be done with it. Get over cast iron and soapstone stuff. You want heat in that barn!

And it would look great in that big ass fireplace. With the legs that is. The stove that is. Not the fireplace.

The 30 in the fireplace that's 20 feet behind does me makes a lot of sense.

Might happen. The wife lost her approval rating after the Intrepid fiasco.

Hell, buy the thing. Ya ain't that far away. If ya hate it I will come and pick it up for free and put it in the basement. I am sure that the pellet puppy I am gonna try down there this year ain't gonna get it done.

Yes, I have the disease as bad as you.

But after this season. I am gonna quit. Yes I am. I am gonna quit.

If you say it enough you might start to believe it. :) How many years of wood do you have stacked up?

I might take you up on that. I've bought 4 stoves in under four years, so it's definitely possible.

Great, now I'm rationalizing a buying a 30 before burn season begins. I blame you, Bart!

Come on man, It's only July, you can wait, something else will pop up and you will be kicking yourself. The sickness continues!

You could paint it brown.... :)

I need some good photos of the 30 inside a fireplace. Is there an easy way to search the gallery for certain stoves?

EDIT: Never mind. I found the search feature for the gallery.

If you wind-up with the Englander, it will be interesting comparing notes this fall as mine get's fired-up for the first year.

Sounds like you might be onto a very affordable, high BTU output, clean burning machine for your needs.

Good luck,
Bill

It's still a maybe. The price and BTU output is very favorable. Is yours installed? Did you post any pics?

I'm still working on my fireplace install. Hope to have pictures sometime. I'm not hurrying, but the hot weather has kept me inside where I can piddle with it at my leisure.

Mine is not installed - yet. I don't have any pics - I'm challenged on that front. I am working around the builders getting my chimney installed for now. I expect to install the beast in Setember. Right now it is in storage.

For more views of the stove, you can do a search on youtube and find several videos of the Englander 30 burning. Here's one I found - N/S loading too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nfNcGOdHqE

Browning, when my sister and brother in law, more the brother in law, were looking for a stove they came up here. More stove stores then NC where they live. Due to this site, i told them, your best bet money and size was the 30 nc. They must have looked at 50. They ended up buying a the 30. While i probably cant take all the credit, as they got a nice deal...they are thrilled with it. I know you didnt need that but another go for 30 voice in your ear cant hurt! I just wish my setup could fit one, then i would have no considerations....another story

I heard he's the current record holder.

And the only one that had one shipped 1149 miles from Boulder, Colorado to 110 miles from where it was made.

Size isn't an issue (I'm talking stoves here) when it comes to the walk-in fireplace and the family room stove choices.

So far, the list includes:
Jotul Firelight
Hearthstone Mansfield
VC Defiant (New only)
Englander 30

Stoves that didn't make the cut that would have worked:
Isle Royal (Scarce in the used market, and the only dealer is quite the distance)
Equinox (8 inch pipe makes it a no-go, and it might be one of the two stoves that are too big)
Blaze King (See reasoning above)
