Thermometer Placement Options

This is the setup on my Hearthstone Heritage, only about 8" of double wall pipe behind the stove before it enters the wall, and soapstone around the stove itself. Can I put a probe thermometer into the pipe? Is my only option a stovetop thermometer?

I would think you should be able to put a probe thermometer in there yes..

I am not sure what pipe that is with the venting slide.
