I've been burning Turman's for the past month (since installing our first pellet stove) and they have done an amazing job heating our home. I figured with temps warming up I would start to do some testing of some other pellets. I picked up four bags of Stove Chow for my first test. I run my Bosca on the #2 setting (of 4 settings) 90% of the time and it keeps things 72-74 degrees in the family room and about 70 degrees everywhere else in the house. The best thing is I've only run my oil heat once a week for a few minutes while cleaning the stove - just to make sure its still there!
My findings with Stove Chow so far is I'm losing about 17 degrees coming out of the stove on the #2 setting compared to the Turman's. I figure if I use them as a shoulder pellet during milder weather that won't be too bad of a tradeoff, but I am also planning on testing some others as well. I do like the $209 per ton price tag!
After I get a few more bags through the stove, I will know more about ash, but its looking pretty decent so far and the glass is staying as clean as it does with the Turman's.
Next on my list is Powerhouse. I plan to get to those by the weekend.
