Had my son over today. After watching some football and pizza, we went out and I showed him how to safety use the chainsaw. He really enjoyed it. It hasn't been an easy past few years, so it was good to share something like this with him.
That's awesome! How old is he? My boys still remember when I taught them how to you something as simple as the lawn mower. It's the little things in life that really matter.

Ah, the lawn mower. Yes I do remember the first time dear old dad passed the duty to myself. I think I was 7(harp music) I remember I couldn't push it, but he kept asking me to. I just grunted and strained over a period of a few weeks. I finally got that thing moving. It taught me perseverance, and eventually my dad got a cheap lawn guy. That's awesome! How old is he? make sure to share a good safety first attitude with him. PPE should be the first thing. You can always buy a new saw or chain. They don't sell many arms or legs.
I'm big on eye protection. I've got sets of safety glasses all over the shop. A few quick seconds can change your entire life.

Kinda like teaching a kid to fish. And what JP11 just said, he'll only know the safe, right way to do it.
I moved here from Louisiana. My Dad's side of the family is Cajun. I had a commercial shrimping license and took a lot of people fishing. Since I moved here my boat's been sitting in the marina lot, only used it a couple of times. Being in the forest kinda takes the place of being out in the bayous. I actually had a fireplace down there, always bought wood for it. Usually it was unseasoned sold as seasoned wood, mostly oak. I'll put up some fishing and shrimping pics sometime.Couldn't agree more. Sometimes I think cutting wood and fishing really ought to be on the school curriculum over here.........
