Tall Metal Chimney Pic?

Someone posted a pic of their chimney installation (a looooong, stainless, through the roof, maybe on a log home) here a couple of months ago and I would like to see it again but I can't seem to search it down.

I think that is what I'm going to end up with given the steep pitch of my existing roof... :-S Not exactly the look or installation I was shooting for but I don't have much choice...

Anybody remember the post I'm talking about?

How tall is the exposed part of the chimney? No braces?

I figure I'm going to have about 13' exposed which will need 2 braces. My roof is 12/12, a killer for chimney installation, at least near the lower edges.

12' above the roof penetration...just did guy wires as it will be moved to go through the ridge in the spring/summer. 12/12 isn't so bad, by the time I was done shingling I got used to walking on it.

Kenny, I can't help you on the picture you are searching for but will say it is good to hear you are at that stage now. I'll bet you are itching to fire that thing up!

I'd also like to see proper brace placement - I think mine could be moved higher. I have 2 - 36inch sections above the shingles, with the brace on the first few inches of the upper piece.

Should the brace be as near the top as possible?

Don't know if my pic will help. This is our cabin with a 12/12 roof pitch. Pipe is straight thru and out.

Solar- I didn't know it was possible to walk on a 12/12 roof (with out some type of walking strips or other aids), my front porch is about 6/12, I've been up on it but don't dare to walk the 12/12 house roof it is attached to. Thanks again for the reply.

Dennis- Yes, I'm really looking forward to it but I'm still not close as the stove will be going into what is now our kitchen so that means we have to get our new addition with the new kitchen finished first. That's still probably 2 months down the road. Sure wish the stove was in, could have used it this week!! Hope y'all are staying warm with your stove

Cudos-That just may be the picture I was looking for. That's probably about what my chimney will look like. I wanted a chase around it but my framer didn't think a chase that tall would hold up well to the wind and I tend to agree. I figure I will have a little over three 4 ft. sections of pipe exposed. According to my chimney instructions, I will need 2 braces on my chimney, one every 5 ft. Thanks for posting!! Do you have any more pics of your installation??

I was bing a little facetious, use roof jacks liberally. Not sure I'd call it walk, but you can move around on dry fresh asphalt shingles. Getting the chimney up was a bit of a challenge. We went one section at a time from inside the attic and lifted. Then dropped it down onto section that comes through the floor. It is a little unnerving to have that much money up there swinging around but it worked. Maybe pointing out the obvious, but if you use this method it is easier to put the cap and flashing on as you go than at the end.
