Has anyone ever tried a "stickler" that goes on the back axel of a rear wheel drive vehicle for splitting wood?

(broken link removed)

The above line didn't become a link, but you can cut and paste to see a stickler on eBay.

Any reviews? Thanks!

Well, on posting, it did become a link...let me know what you think.

I've used such a splitter on the back of a tractor powered by the PTO system. Pretty dangerious splitter compared to a normal bar type splitter IMO. The corkscrew getting caught on the wood would sometimes flip wood around violently and could cause some real damage. You have to hold the wood in position and push it up so it gets caught and started. I certainly wouldnt recommend one.

I haven't tried one, but given the unknowns in a piece of wood, my thought is risky business. If that puppy hit a knot or hidden burl, maybe it would just spin that log and your arm with it. I rather use a real splitter - rented or owned.

It seems kinda dangerous to have the tires spinning and the engine running when the back is jacked up off the ground.

ok..my thoughts are this..safety switch or not..trip or fall into that bad boy and you are "split"

how fast could your hand get screwed ?

do like I did..hit a deer and fix the car yourself..use the insurance money to buy a log splitter..and having a beautiful german immigrant wife that is stronger than yourself doesnt hurt either..she can out work two of me !

really though..that thing is scarey

Some one posted on that thing last year. I think we all decided a person could kill youself with it.

I hear you there! I was all twisted up one night in a Beir Halle, MeirGustos I think it was, downtown Frankfurt, got loose with the hands while dancing with a fraulien, ended up in the 97th general hospital, that frau kicked the living crap outta me, embarrasing, I was with some of my army buddies, they stood there and let her rip into me, never lived that one down.

I saw these things advertised in the 70s and had wondered whatever became of them.....yeah it does look like an emergency room visit waiting to happen
