A good wiki entry might be made by this....

Fairly modern (this century) songs with wood burning in the lyrics...
Must be used in the traditional sense.....wood burning as peaceful, recreational, saving money, independence, romantic, etc.

Our House (CS&N;)
"I'll light the fire, while you tend the garden"

The Night they Drove old Dixie Down (Band, etc.)
"I don't mind chopping wood, and I don't care if the moneys no good".

Power
by Peter, Paul & Mary
performed by Crosby & Nash
"Give me the comforting glow of a woodfire, but take all your atomic poison power away"

COUNTRY TRASH (Johnny Cash)
"Got a pot belly stove a quart of wood
Mama turns the left-overs into hash I'm doing alright for Country Trash"

NEVER LET YOU GO (New Kids on the Block)
"Come have a seat
Sit by the fireplace and
I'll massage your shoulders if they hurt
I can tell by your eyes, a hard day at work "

LIKE AN ANGEL PASSING THROUGH MY ROOM (ABBA)
"n the twilight hour I am alone
Sitting near the fireplace, dying embers warm my face"

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER (Dolly Parton)

And I had fantasized about Christmas in this way
Curled up by a fireplace in a Tahoe ski chalet
With a fast talking lover and some slow burning wood
But even in my wildest dreams it never got this good

Good thread! No suggestions.. Yet!! :red:

Wait, wait, I got one!! Nat King Cole, "Chestnuts Roasting by the Open Fire"

So I guess Fire on the mountain is out huh?

Well how about this,

Artist: Grateful Dead
Song: Brown-Eyed Women

Daddy made whiskey and he made it well
Cost two dollars and it burned like hell
I cut hickory just to fire the still
Drink down a bottle and you're ready to kill
doesn't fit the "romantic" catagory, maybe "recreational"??

OK - got one... have no idea who recorded it - but I didn't make this up:

"Put another log on the fire..
Cook me up some bacon and some beans..
Wash my socks and then go fetch my slippers..
and come and tell me why you're leavin' me"

EDIT... OK - so I got some of the lyrics wrong...been a while since I've heard it... I'm guessing this doesn't fit in the "romantic" category of wood burning. the full text is here:

Two entrees for "Romantic / Recreational"

Forget the artist -
"Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire"

The Beatles
"Norwegian Wood"

Well there is always George Strait:

"My Old Flame's Out Burnin Another Honky Tonk Down"

Bummer. Burning Down the House by The Talking Heads doesn't fit the criteria.

WONDER COULD I LIVE THERE ANYMORE (Mary Wells)

Talking about the smell of cornbread cooking on a wood stove
Seems to bring a picture to my mind
Of a little three room house with mama in the kitchen
But she can't stop to talk ain't got the time
She's a fixing daddy's supper he's a working over time
Trying to pay our bill at the grocery store
It's nice to think about it can't even visit well I wonder could I live there anymore

Light My Fire - the Doors

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire

One of my favorite songs to listen to in winer with the fire going is Song for a Winter's Night by Gordon Lightfoot and covered by Sarah McLachlan.

DAN SEALS CAMPFIRES & COFFEE A TIN CUP IN MY HAND. SURE KEEPS A PERSON WARM WHEN IT IS COLD OUT, & A HORSE TO CALL YOUR FRIEND.
Think its called Wide open spaces or I got it all backwards :-S

That's a SEX fire - I mean real wood fires!

Often they go hand in hand. I won't touch the line about 'real wood'. ;-P

conway twitty and loretta lynn sang the best "you let the stove go out" song...

there's nothing, cold as ashes, after the fire is gone...

Another might be Slow Burning Fire by the Skydiggers. "There's nothing as hot as a slow burning fire"
The Skydiggers????????

How's about another Christmas song "Let it Snow"
The snowman in the yard is frozen hard;
It's a sorry sight to see;
But if he had a brain, he'd complain
That he wishes he were me.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say "good night",
How I'll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.
The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Obviously referring to one of the new large EPA stoves since the fire is slowly dying.
