Hey all,

Looking for some advice on my SIT Nova 820. Full model is 0820635. The current issue is that when turned from “pilot” to “on” the flames are very high. Mostly blue flames with a bit of orange at the top. The level is turned to low. Any ideas?

For background, I just replaced the valve after being told it was faulty and repair times are months out. Thanks for any help.

Is the main burner flame high or the pilot flame high? You kinda confused me mentioning the pilot adjustment when I think you are talking about the burner flame. And we need more info. Fireplace model and pics help.

Thanks for responding; you’re right - I’m talking about the main burner. I edited the original to make it more clear.

It’s a Jotul Classic 3. I’ll send some pictures when I get back home.

Few questions. How are you turning your stove on? Your description was unusual. The pilot knob should be turned to on, and then you should have some type of switch to control the valve.
Is this stove new to you or have you had it for a while? What is your fuel? And has it always been on that fuel type?

Of course it's a jotul. Over rated flame. I see more cracked fireboxes on jotuls than anything else. It might just be a big flame.

This is our second winter with the fireplace. It uses natural gas. It has a thermostat box that hooks into the unit - usually, the knob is turned to “on” and we control everything through the remote (ex: set the temp, turn “off”, etc.).

I’m being extra cautious because I did this repair myself. I know in the past the flames have been high because they’ve eaten away at part of the metal on top. I’ll include a picture - right now, the flames reach up to this metal and turn it red. The flames also shift to yellow the longer the unit is running.

Seems like excessive gas pressure or orifice is to large. Flames going orange after awhile is it using up the free oxygen in there and it is settling down to what is being supplied. Turn down the air a bit and talk to a professional about measuring gas pressure after the valve and a smaller orifice.

Only you can determine that....but it must be better then melting the top of the stove. Reducing air will also yellow up the flame for a more realistic look. Don't go orange.
