Since this is my first year burning wood I have a question. I have heard about getting the pipe so hot it turns Cherry Red, how long and at what temps would you have to burn for this to happen.

PINEBURNER said:ZAP, I know you were looking at some of that pine on your property, and if you burn that when its well seasoned it can be just like pallet wood. When my wife of MIL forget to close the bypass on the liberty the single wall pipe above the stove can get so hot you can almost see through it! Thats one of the drawbacks to a stove with a bypass, if you forget to close it, the flames are going right up the pipe. But it makes for smokeless reloads wich is always nice.
