I'm getting older.... I need to get a smaller saw to work with and I feel it may be my last chain saw... I'm eyeing up a Husky 550xp...

So, my question is... do these things ever go on sale ? Manufacturer coupons ever ? Will I have to pay full retail plus tax to get one ? It looks like they have national pricing... so how do you get one for a better deal ? Property taxes have me stressed....

Any response welcome... even heckling...

Can't say, I am not a Husky guy. Had a friend that had a 372 and it was a heck of a saw. With Stihl prices from dealer to dealer are close to the same. I am a farm so I get sales tax exempt. You think your property taxes have you stressed. In my area the Mega John Deere dealers have the best price on the Stihl saws. Sometimes you can get them to threw in a spare chain or some oil for free. Give the Stihl 261 a look I have two and love them. You might watch Bailey's I think they have run some sales on Husky's. Good luck with what ever you do. Pro saws aren't cheap but they last.

mikieb what saw(s) do you run now? That is, the saw you are downsizing from?

Currently running a Husky 272XP which I believe is a 4.1 cube saw and I have a Stihl 036Pro which is a 3.6 cube saw.... both saws are getting old... the 036pro has lost a noticeable amount of compression over the years because I use that the most... the Husky 272XP is still a good saw and I use it for the big stuff...
So I want to update the 036Pro with a Husky 550xp. I have done my research and that is the saw I want.

So my question is... do these things... the Husky XP saws ever go on sale ?

I do file a profit or loss from farming with my 1040 every year... maybe the tax exempt angle is something i need to go with.... that would save $39 at least...

You shouldn't have a problem filing a tax exempt form with who ever you buy the saw from to save the sales tax and if you are filing taxes with farm income or loss then the farm is buying a new chain saw and I would take it off as a direct expense. I don't personally own any chain saws our farms owns them. Come to think of it there isn't too many things I own around here.

Put some new rings in the 036 and it will be the same saw you loved for years...
