I wonder how many fingers have been amputated at the various exposed parts of these machines...

I remember when I was a kid some of the older farmers had fingers and sometimes hands missing because of equipment run by flat belts from tractors. We had a hammer mill that we ground feed with ran that way.
Some dangerous stuff back in the day.
Thanks for sharing bgreen.

When I was in Bulgaria I saw old timers cutting their firewood with a big open blade too. All of them still had their fingers as far as I could see.

A friend has a 1905 bandsaw that bears caution too, but it's a great tool.

I just bought a $100 concrete mixer that will not stop if you stick your finger in the gear that turns the drum. I have to pour a bit of sidewalk.

Yes the old tools taught you to respect them
Or suffer the consequences
Nothing wrong with that or the tools
Nowadays they teach if you have all the safety gear on all is good 😆
Nothing replaces experience and respect for your tools
