So I'm looking into installing a Class A stainless chimney and I'm comparing ICC Excel and Selkirk models.

The Selkirk website shows Supervent with 1" insulation like ICC but the big box stores here in Canada (Home Depot Canada, Rona, and Home Hardware) all sell Selkirk with 2" insulation. Is this a modification made to meet the ULC S-629 standard? ICC claims having open ends with insulation showing is better than ss capped ends, but it looks like this Selkirk is open ended too...

Canadian super vent is 2”, you need ultimate one for 1” wall from Selkirk in Canada.

I installed the selkirk last year purchased from the second closest Home Hardware to me as they keep a lot of stock being in a Amish populated area . It does show insulation at the ends and is 2 inch with locking bands. 2 previous chimneys were duravent with the twist lock connections which I preferred now I have used both . One of those chimneys is over 30 years old and is still in great shape .

I don't like chimney pipe with open insulation on the ends. I would get the better grade Selkirk or get Excel.

..but the Excel is exactly that way.. Open insulation on the ends
That was why I put Selkirk premium line, like UltraTemp first. Is this sold in Canada? That said, I like Excel product line, its quality, and the smaller OD. However, I thought Excel was sealed on the top end, open on the bottom and have not seen the Canadian Selkirk here.

No, the ICC Excel website boasts how there's no thermal bridging at the connection points because there are no metal end caps..

As for the premium Selkirk, I can only seem to get one style for DIY.. I'm currently waiting on a couple of other WETT Certified installers to see what products they offer..

UltraTemp is only approved for oil and gas in Canada, wood approved products are SuperVent 2100, Ultimate One, SuperPro 2100, CF Sentinel, and Ultimate Plus.

i should say that the RONA and HOME HARDWARE models are the same with the open ends, 2" packed insulation, but the HOME DEPOT Selkirk is labelled as "SUPERVENT" and it's got capped ends, albeit still 2"

OKAY I've figured it out... the website doesn't ask you, but it defaults to the US site. Menu in the corner has an option at the bottom to choose CANADA and the model numbers change. Home Depot sells "SuperVent 2100" aka Selkirk Model JM, which is upgraded from SuperVent (oil/gas only, Class B with 1" pack) to a 2" pack insulation. The RONA/HH stuff is Model "05(-)20306" which looks to be "Sentinel" or Model CF but both list it as Selkirk.
