Greetings all,
Long time stalker, first time poster......so I hope I do this right.
I’ve had a VC Aspen for about 20 years and have loved it……..no problems but just decided to rebuild it and loan it to a friend out of state.
So now, I want a new stove.
I’ve narrowed it down to a Morso, either a 1410B Squirrel, or a 3112, and I want to put it in a corner.
Even if I didn’t want to put it there, I’d still need to understand clearance requirements, and I’m having trouble doing that with Morso’s installation manual (which I believe has been commented upon in this Forum).
Many manufacturers post tables for clearances with single wall connector, double wall connector, heat shields, etc.. Morso does not include one for clearances with heat shields (at least for these models).
Looking at the more common 1410, and referencing the dimensions, and Page 8 of the installation manual, they show that the corner wall to unit should be, with double wall connector, 14”.
Above that, in the text that precedes these tables in section 1.6 “Positioning the stove……distance to walls and lintel”, it offers this language: “When the stove is positioned near non-combustible materials, a gap of 4 inches or more is recommended for cleaning purposes and to ensure that heat circulates around the stove”
So, please see the image I've attempted to attach showing the details of my application (if I did it right), and let me now if you can provide me with some way finding to my two questions:

- How close can I push this stove back into the corner?
- Can I reduce the 14” shown in the double wall connector table by 66% per NFPA 2011 as I understand it (to 4.76”+), or does the language in the text allow that to go to 4” (which I really can’t do anyway because the required floor protection hits the wall)?
- How much of the corner do I need to cover with heat shield?
- I’ve seen where I need to cover any combustible surface within 36 inches of the stove, but is that at any point on the stove, in all directions? That would be a huge piece of steel, so perhaps I just need to go out to the front plane of the stove........or until published clearances are met, which seems like circular logic. I can’t find clear guidance on a corner installation.
