Jersey shore/pines
The landscaper buddy stopped by the last 3 days with some rounds. About 90% Cherry so far and he said he has an Oak and a very large Maple but he needs to find a bigger saw for the Maple.
The 5 ton Homelite splitter kicked ass today! The first 3 pics are the pile he dropped and the last photo is everything from the broom forward plus the pile on the ground that needs to be cut down to splitting size. I only have my boots and gloves so using my saw will have to wait a bit longer.

Nice! I love cherry! Not enough of it around here.

It's pretty nice having the cherry dominate the stack! I should end up with around a cord of cherry, 2 cord of oak, and how ever many cords can come out of a large maple? What started as a scrounge is quickly turning into a jackpot! :)

Free wood, Delivered free,
& you get the fun part. cutting, splitting, stacking & burning?
Where so I sign up?
Something about stacked split wood just looks & feels good.
Good score
PS: that's not fair "scrounging", gotta be a rule somewhere, no scrounging from your driveway. :)

Haha I play with a handicap! I had to stop driving in 97 due to Retinopathy. I'm a phone scrounger now.

I just got the 5 ton Homelite. Following the advice of someone here I also picked up the Werner scaffold that HD has for $39. The Homelite fits on it perfectly and raises it up to a perfect working height. Takes an effort to hump it on, but worth it to save bending over.

Yeah but now you have like 3 years worth of kiln dried wood!!
Thats an awesome head start though. Now you can buy green wood and split it for 2 years!

There exists a hierarchy in the scrounging world. Driveway scrounging has got to be near the top. I was happy to move up from the scrapping for the Craigslist scraps class. But, you never know when you are going to be pushed back down.

I'd complain about inconsistant lengths. :-)

Sometimes all you have to do is sit in your driveway on a bucket with a splitter and the wood will come to you.
I hear a *thud* flollowed by a second, I look behind me and there are 2 guys with 2 3' sections of Cedar!
Landscaper buddy stopped by shortly after with pallets and a wheelbarrow and say's "Your gonna need these". He scrounged up around 20+ dead standing trees here and there and is gonna take his son and start cutting tomorrow. I'm happier than a Gopher in soft dirt!!
So far I'm up about 1 and 1/3 cord cut, split, and stacked.

Now if it would only start raining hundred dollar bills! You are a very fortunate man.

Thanks Quads! I just hope my shoulders hold up. The new splitter has to be my best investment ever.
I borrowed safety gear and put gas and oil in the saw for the first time and cut all the over-sized stuff down to proper lengths and loved every minute of it!!

Too bad we don't live closer, I'd be happy to give you a hand with it.

Thanks Quads! Having a cutting buddy would be awesome...Get some splitting out of the way and get some fishing in!! :)

And the beat goes on :)
