Hello again Ladies and Gents....
I have a question about a mis-matched bar and chain combo.
On my Homelite 360 Auto, it has a 3/8" x .058 x 84 DL chain. Good combo, but I've filed it beyond the witness marks and
lowered the depth gauge lower than I feel comfortable with. After this last breeze and rain shower that hit the East Cost,
the 2 local guys I deal with have NO CHAIN LEFT IN STOCK
They where making chains outa normal scrap pieces, with
a bunch of links. I did find a dealer, about 40 miles away, that had some 3/8" chain left, but it was .050 instead of the .058.
I bought a 24" bar worth, 84 D.L., as stop-gap measure.
I know the power head doesn't care, nore does the sprocket/clutch. But what an I doing to the bar? It's a quite a few
years old, but is in good shape. The Cr@psman can't cut it (both literally and physically ;-) )and the 280 would say
"yeah GFY AH(1)"!! The 770 is being a #$@# and wont start. The 445 is in cohutz with the Crafs-man - both are 16"ers
with .325 and new chains.
So I slapped the .050 on the 360, and got 'er done. But I'm concerned about what I did to the bar.
Bottom line - what kind of long term affects did I do to the bar??
EDIT - BTW ALL ELSE DID FAIL!!
