Hello. We are on the cusp of signing a contract to have one of these stoves installed. The company is respectable and well-known in our area. Our question stems from our convo with the guys who came to give an estimate. Everything is included in our quote EXCEPT the backboard or heat board for the walls. They stated it is up to us to find out what is necessary. I am confused, as they are the ones pulling the permit, so if it is a necessary part of having the woodstove, it would seem necessary to have it all done before the inspector signs off on it.
Where do we find the info advising us if the heat board is necessary, and if so, what the actual requirements are. And should this be something the contractor can at least answer for us, as far as who could get us that info? Thanks

In the stove manual. And no it isnt

If the stove is installed meeting or exceeding the clearance requirements as stated in the manual, no additional wall protection is needed.
