We just installed a new Hearthstone Mansfield and did our first initial burn last night. From what we read, you are to do three small burns, just with some kindling, to get the stones warm but not hot and then let cool to room temperature. After the 3 burns, you can fire up the stove for some real heat.

Well surprisingly, it seemed the stone started heating up much quicker than we expected. And with only a little kindling it was almost considered "hot" to the touch and we wondered if maybe we were too hot? We could touch the stone but not for long!

Anyone have any feedback on how "hot" the initial burns should be? I think we were around 200, that is hot, but definitely not HOT when you are comparing it to 500-600 degree woodstove hot.

Sounds fine. I think they suggest running it up to 200, 300, and then 400. At least this is what most manufacturers suggest.
