I just had a Quadrafire 1200i insert installed and I'm trying to figure out a couple of things that relate to the fan speed. On the right hand side of the stove, the door that holds the reset box and fan speed switch, it keeps popping open, so the magnetic latch is not working. That is a minor issue, but I think that not having the door closed means that it doesn't press on a silver push button switch that is on the control box. It appears like that switch is a piece of sheet metal that clicks in and out when pressed, but I don't know if it is a switch or if it performs any function. I think that it may have something to do with the fan speed ? I'm not talking about the 3 position rocker, I'm talking about a rectangular sheet metal piece that pushes in and clicks but is spring loaded and pops out again when you let go.

Even when the stove is on high, it blows somewhat fast, but it is taking forever for the room to reach 72. It is 30 outside, so I know that it has to work hard, but I think it isn't blowing fast enough. Is any of this related ? Should I look at something else ?

I would suggest reading the manual for your insert.

I've read every page of it, but I can't locate anything that tells me what that sheet metal piece. It is not listed on the exploded diagram, nor in any of the FAQs. Can you point me in the right direction ?

not sure what piece of metal you are talking about, but there is no switch that is operated by that door.
The three position switch is not a "fan switch". It is a "heat output" switch, it controls feed rate AND fan speed. One other thing to note; your stove has a 2 speed blower, it blows on low speed when you have the heat output switch on low or medium, and blows on high when the heat swich is on high.

post a picture of the piece of metal if you can

Here is a picture of the control box with an arrow pointing to the piece of metal that I think is also a switch of some sort.

not a switch. check and make sure the head of the screw that the side door pivots on is seated properly in the round hole that is meant for it (bottom). It sounds like it is not in it. That would cause the interference problem with the control board.

not real sure what it is exactly. The same control box is used in other Quad models, and it does not come into contact with any "doors" on any of the other stoves.
I will check with tec support at Quad when I get back into the shop later in the week, cuz now I'm curious.

The piece of metal on the control box has no function, don't say another word about it. IT DOES NOTHING. I have no idea why it is there.

Check your door for warpage. I had a santa fe where the side door was all bent and it was making it pop open all the time once the stove heated up. Otherwise you could also check the magnet for proper alignment and if there is a lot of paint on the magnet scrape it off which would help it stick better.

Relax pal. Just curious, if you have no idea why it is there, how can you say it does nothing? If I want to say another word about it I will, OK.
If you don't like the thread STFU and read a different one.

I know it does nothing because I work on these things all the time. I was just making the point to not worry about it, wasn't trying to stir anything up. I also have no idea what the OP is talking out that it clicks in like a switch. Its not spring loaded or anything. Its just a hunk of metal. I have smashed a bad board in half once but I forget what that thing was connected to. It might possibly be a heat sync of some sort.

I'll be curious as well to see what it is. But I'm telling you, I just got up and pushed on it. It is spring loaded and it clicks in when you push it and then when you let go, it springs
out again. If it doesn't serve any function that would seem odd.

Well the box is clear.... shine a flashlight in there and see what its connected to. I have a new control box with a job on Monday maybe I will see what I can see. I doubt I will have to replace it so no smashing open will be occuring.

That piece of metal on the control board is a heat sink to allow heat to escape the control board and not effect the electronics.
