Propane Tank and Regulator Question for Jotul Stove

Hello,

I have a JØTUL GF 200 LILLEHAMMER (propane stove). This fireplace is our secondary heat and I do not have it on 24/7. I have been using a 30 & 40lb tank that I own outright and fill out up the local hardware store. Everything has been great, but I noticed that the flame has been a lot lower this year, and when I light the stove, there is a hissing sound and then a poof of flame. I had one of the technicians from Hearth & Home come out to take a look at the stove and everything seemed fine and clean (no cobwebs). He mentioned that the pressure may not be enough, and that the flame was igniting inside the burner. My question is what should I do, has anyone else here have this issue? Would getting a bigger tank from the Gas company help? Should I replace the regulator? What size regulator should I be using with the 30 & 40lb tanks? What should the PSI be? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to get this resolved before next winter. Thank you!

you had a tech out and he didn't measure your in and out pressure?
shame on him!
one of the first things he/she should have done
pressure requirements will be listed in your owners manual.

Thank you for the response, I am not sure why they did not check the pressure, I wish they had. Which one would be the output from the external regulator on the propane tank? Is it the Inlet or Manifold pressure?

testing at the port on the stoves valve marked inlet should be min 11 and max of 13.5 inches of water column
for lpg fuel

you are welcome Randy.

a basic BBQ regulator should work fine, i've used them running lpg stoves for years w/o trouble.

I'd question the 'tech's trouble shooting methods.

did they remove the main burner and main burner orifice to check for debris?

Yeah, he had the whole burner apart and checked everything with the Jotul stove. All seemed clean, I am hoping it is just a bad regulator
