Despite having posted several times about my Mansfield 8011, I have discovered that I actually have a 8010 with steel baffles (the model number is barely legibly inscribed by hand).

Now that I am researching this stove, I have found a part offered for both it and the Heritage 8020, labeled as: "90-86000 & 90-86200 Mansfield 8010 and Heritage 8020 Primary Air Opening Repair"

The PDF shows the installation of this L shaped (angle iron?) part that is drilled and tapped into the top of the doghouse, with the other part of the L covering the primary air opening. https://hearthstonetech.com/wp-cont...0-primary-air-opening-repair-instructions.pdf

It doesn't appear to be any kind of structural repair, so I'm assuming it somehow diffuses or lessens the incoming air? The PDF doesn't show or describe what is being repaired or what the other side of the L looks like.

Anyone know or have pictures of what this part does? Just curious because the velocity of my primary is capable of blowing out a newly lit tinder pile (if I start a pile low rather from top down) and even a mid-sized fire looks like it's experiencing a windy day out in the open.

I'm wondering what was so problematic that they made a repair part (that I would have to make since it is discontinued).

Interesting. It's listed as a repair kit. The part sounds worth investigating, especially if it addresses your concerns.
